LEGO Animation

Durrow Library on March 20th at 4.00 pm will host an Animation Workshop for the LEGO Animation Project.
Joining us for this discussion will be Maurice Joyce from the Academy Award nominated animation studio, Cartoon Saloon.
Director Maurice Joyce began his career at Murakami Wolf Studios, where he worked on the 90s pop culture sensation, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, and he currently works on the Cartoon Saloon world renowned animated series Puffin Rock.
Please call 0578730020 or  0578736090 to book a spot or to join the LEGO Animation Project

This is a award winning joint venture by Abbeyleix & Durrow Libraries. During the course of the year both libraries will be running LEGO Animation classes for ages 10 and up. This is aimed at anyone between the ages of 10-18.

The aim is let your youngsters become creators and not just consumers of media, to use their smartphone, tablet & laptop constructively.

To tell their story, whatever it may be.

So like any film project, we need writers, voice actors, artists, designers and LEGO builders.

So if you think you have someone who might be interested in this project and would like  to take on one of these roles, please contact us at

Past Events

With 67 different entries, over 70 competitors and a massive turnout on the day, we can safely say it was a massive event.

The quality of entries was such that I did not envy the judges task. Despite that, they did a great job in selecting our winners and Abbeyleix Library would like to thank Jessica and Faolán for all their hard work.

We would also like to thank all our master builders for their hard work and quality builds. The ingenuity and creativity on display was staggering and the stories to go with the sets were also brilliant.

Below is just a sample of builds that were on display, to see the rest please check out our Facebook page and help us select the winner of the Online Favourite Prize.

Laois Geology & Minecraft Rocks

For National Heritage we had Michele Castiaux from the Irish Geological Association presented a fun and informative workshop on geology and Irish rocks. We also talked about the popular game Minecraft and the rocks used in that.

We had a great time and would recommend people to check out Michele’s website

Spring into Storytime: Storytelling and Crafty Arts

Thanks to all the children who participated in our Spring into Storytime Crafts session last Friday. We had a great time and we hope everyone else did as well.

Keep an eye out for further sessions.
