Fort Protector and Fitzmaurice Place Portlaoise Project


In early 2018, Laois County Council was successful in obtaining funding from the Heritage Council and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht under the new Historic Towns Initiative. The project funded will see the transformation of Fort Protector and Fitzmaurice Place at the historic core of the town, over several phases.

The project is now at Planning stage. Public Consultation on the Part VIII planning is open until 21 June 2018. Full documents can be viewed below, or in hard copy at the offices of Laois County Council (during office hours) until 7th June 2018.

Submissions should be clearly marked “Fitzmaurice Place Public Realm Part VIII” and sent in writing to Kieran Kehoe, Director of Services, Roads, Planning, Economic Development & Emergency Services, Laois County Council, County Hall, Portlaoise, Co Laois.
