Community Involvement in Roadworks Scheme
This scheme applies to those roads which the Council have taken in charge, i.e. public roads. This scheme provides a means whereby residents, who wish to have improvement works carried out on a road, can fund the cost of the required works jointly with the Council.
The closing date for receipt of applications for the 2012 scheme is 12 Noon on the 13th January 2012.

Laois County Council supports the participation of local communities in co-operative projects with the Council. Within the level of available resources a favourable response will be forthcoming to local groups who approach the Council with a view to co-operating with the Local Authority in Roadworks Schemes.
Local Improvement Schemes
A Local Improvement Scheme is a scheme for carrying out improvement works on private/non-public roads. Laois County Council may provide assistance by way of carrying out works on roads which are eligible for Local Improvement Schemes.
Eligibility
To be eligible the road on which works are to be carried out must be in private ownership and must:
Provide access to parcels of land of which at least 2 are owned or occupied by different persons engaged in separate agricultural activities, or
Provide access for harvesting purposes (including turf or seaweed) for 2 or more persons, or
A financial contribution must be received from the applicants towards the cost of the Local Improvement Scheme.
Where the cost of the proposed works is €25,393 or less, the Council must receive a local contribution of 10%. Where the cost of the proposed works is more than €25,393, the Council must receive a local contribution of 15%.
