Leisure & Culture
The Arts Section in Laois County Council ensures the prevalence of drama, concerts, workshops and exhibitions. They have responsibility to plan a comprehensive arts programme for the people of County Laois.
The Laois Heritage Office works in partnership wth local communities to promote enjoyment and awareness of our built, natural and cultural heritage, through collection of data, practical conservation projects, training and awareness and regular events such as Heritage Week. We have superb Parks Recreation facilities throughout the county and the Council works hard to promote Sports & Leisure for all ages. Most towns & villages have a Local Library providing services and activities throughout the year.
Today, Laois’s captivating Heritage is supported by breath-taking landscapes where you can enjoy peaceful moments of rejuvenation. Take a drive through the Slieve Bloom and its quaint mountain villages, or visit the charming towns and magnificent gardens around the county. You can choose from a number of picturesque riverside villages along the Grand Canal where fishing and water activities are popular. This diversity of landscape offers the visitor a wide variety of activities form horse-riding to fishing in any of Laois’s renowned rivers and lakes. Laois Tourism works to promote tourism throughout County Laois.
