Street Cleaning
Keeping the streets clear of litter is an on-going challenge for any local authority and Laois County Council provides a dedicated street cleaning and sweeping service to help alleviate the problem. The collection and disposal of litter makes enormous demands on the human and financial resources of the County Council. The cost of sweeping litter from the streets of Laois in 2006 was approx. €1 million, and we also purchased a green machine at a cost of €21,000 to improve the service we provide.
Full-time personnel are deployed each day in the main commercial areas of the county. In some of the built up areas, mechanical sweeping commences early in the morning before rush hour traffic commences. During the day, both mechanical and hand sweeping is undertaken.
