The Dog Warden is available at his office Monday to Friday 9am until 1:00 p.m. and Monday evenings (Except Bank Holidays) 6.30pm until 8.00pm. All other times appointment only. The National Animal Helpline number is 1890 515 515.
The dog warden may serve on the spot fines for not keeping your dog under control.
Under the Local Government Control of Dogs (Restriction of certain dogs) Regulations 1992, some breeds have to be muzzled and kept on a strong chain by a person over 16 years of age when in a public place. Examples are Dobermans and Alsatians etc. Dogs of all types have to wear a collar with the name and address of the owner inscribed on it. If you do not comply with these regulations the dog warden may fine you €30 or even seize and detain your dog. A prosecution in respect of the alleged offence will be instituted for failure to pay fine.
