Higher Education Grants

Arrangements for New Student Grant Applications for 2012/2013

A new ONLINE only grant applications system is being introduced for 2012.  All new applications will be made online to a single awarding authority, Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI).  For information on how to apply and required documentation please log on to www.studentfinance.ie for details.

If you are already in receipt of a grant

Students who are currently in receipt of a student grant and who are progressing to the next year of the same course will continue to be assessed and paid by their existing awarding authorities - ie the relevant local authority or Vocational Education Committee.  If you are changing your course or progressing to a new course you will need to apply to the SUSI online system.

Higher Education Grants for academic year 2011/2012

The closing date for receipt of completed Higher Education Grant applications is 31st March, 2012.  Only applications where there has been a 'change of circumstances' will be accepted after this date.

Laois County Council deals with Honours Level Degree Courses and Postgraduate Courses.  Laois V.E.C. accepts applications for P.L.C. Certificate & Diploma (Ordinary Level Degree) Courses.  Part-time Courses or Courses in private colleges are not covered under the terms of the Department of Education Higher Education Grant Scheme.
