SSPS HELP

NB-Very important: you will need to disable pop-up blockers in your browser for this site to view your report.

SSPS FUNCTIONS

The SSPS allows the user to draw a proposed development site. They can then generate a report on this area which will inform them on any relevant information on their proposed area. There are various features which allow the user to do this and these are explained throughout this help file.

SSPS example

MAP WINDOW

The Map Window displays the part of the map the user wishes to view. Different areas of the map can be viewed by using the zoom levels and also the directional arrows located around the edges of the map. As the user zooms in and out they have the option of removing various map layers. This will be further explained later in the document.

ZOOM LEVELS

Map Tools

This toolbar shows the zoom level of the map displayed in the Map Window. It enables the user to zoom in or out on the map just by clicking either the +, – or Zoom Level buttons. To reload the Base map (Starting map) click on the restart text below the zoom level.

LEGEND

Legend

The legend window displays the styles of the features visible on the map. Depending on the zoom level selected, these features can change. The check box to the left of the feature in the legend allows the display to be turned on and off in the map window. If this check box is greyed out then the user doesnt have the option to turn off the display.

SEARCH FUNCTION

search

This section enables you to search for a particular Townland in the county. To search for a particular Townland type in the Townland name and click the Search button. The Townland will then be displayed on the Results Window.

RESULT WINDOW

When the user carries out a Townland Search, a list of all townlands fitting the search criteria or which are phonetically similar will be displayed in the Results window.

results

Click on the icon on the Results Window and the Map Window will be refreshed to display the selected townland.

PRE-PLANNING OPTIONS

pre-planning

The Pre-Planning Options allow users to do three seperate functions. The first "Zoom" allows the user to click on any particular part of the Map Window. This Zoom Level of this area will increase by one (Corresponding to the vertical bars on Map Tools). The user can continue to zoom and until the maximum zoom is reached and the Aerial Photos are displayed. The second function "Draw site" allows the user to draw a proposed site and create a report based on this. This is explained in more detail in the Quick Guide to Using the SSPS below. When the mouse pointer is hovered over any Town or Townland the tooltips are displayed. The tooltips will display the name of the Town or Townland that relate to the specific area that the mouse is pointed to.

Quick Guide to Using the SSPS

To use the system, simply complete the following steps:

  1. Locate your proposed development site

  2. Draw your Site Boundary

  3. Submitting your Proposed Site

  4. Revisiting your Report

Locating your Proposed Development Site

There are four ways to locate a site of interest (see figure below):

 A) Using Map Tools

 B) Search by Townland Name

 C) Click on the Map

 D) Click on the Map Edge to pan around the map.

A): Click on the +/- icons zoomzoom to Zoom in & out. Different maps come on at different zoom levels.

B): To search by Townland, type the townland name into the text box, (circled B ) and click the search button. All townlands that match this name will appear in the results box below the map window. Click on the  Go icon Go  and the map will zoom and centre on the townland.

C): Click on a location on the map and the system will zoom in one level and centre on that spot. This is probably one of the quickest ways to zoom into a desired location.

D:) The arrows around the edge of map are used to move the map in that direction, but the map remains at the same zoom level.

Drawing your site boundary

To draw a site boundary, click the "Draw Site"  button (circled in picture below). This option is only available when you have zoomed into the last level. The button will be outlined in Red to show that the option is available.

Once selected, the cursor will change and you can draw your site boundary.

Draw Site

To draw your site, move your mouse cursor to one of your site "corners" and click the left mouse button. This will create your starting point for your site boundary. Move your mouse cursor to the next corner of your site and click the left mouse button. This will draw a line between your first point and this new point. Continue doing this until you are ready to close your site boundary. Your site can be any shape and can have as many sides as you want.

When you are ready to close your site boundary, click the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON. This will draw a line between the last point you created and your starting point. Notice that the site outline changed from yellow to blue to indicate that it has closed/finished.

If you have drawn your boundary incorrectly, simply click the "Clear" button and draw your site again.

Submitting your Proposed Site

After drawing your proposed site you must click the "Submit" button. The Submit button is circled in the picture below.

A pop-up message will ask you to verify if you want to submit this site for a report. Click ok to continue and view your report.

If you have pop-up blocked in Windows XP the report will not show. To change this setting go to Tools> Pop-Up Blocker> Turn off Pop-Up Blocker> on the menu bar of your Internet Explorer Browser. You will have to redraw your site and submit it again to generate the report

Revisiting your Report

There are two ways to revisit your report. The easiest way is to enter your email address into the box at the top of the report that is generated for you and click the Send button. The system will email a link to you which, when clicked, will take you right back to your report.

At the top of your report, you will notice a "Report Number" and a "Password." To view a previously created report,  click the "Search"  button, (see picture below), in the PrePlanning Options section.   Enter the Report Number and Password off your report into the relevent text boxes. The system will recreate the report and zoom to the site on the map.

We strongly recommend that you print a copy of your report for your records and to bring with you to any PrePlanning consultation. This will make it easier for the Planner to quickly identify the site you are interested in.
