Welcome to the Environment Section

The Environment Section comprises of 6 individual sections. A brief description of the work of the section is shown below.

Community Intiatives :
The section works closely with the Tidy Towns teams, including associated groups, besides administering various grant aid schemes.

Environmental Protection :
Implementation of the statutory duties of the local authority under the Local Governement (Water Pollution) Acts 77-90, including the Phosphorous Regulations.

Waste Management :
The section manages the landfill and implements the regulations arising from the Waste Managment Act 1996.

Fire Service :
It is the aim of Laois County Fire & Rescue Service . - to provide an efficient and effective response to fires and other emergencies; and - to reduce the incidence of fire by the provision of an efficient and effective fire safety education, advice and legal enforcement service.

Civil Defence :
Laois Civil Defence operates as the reserve emergency service for County Laois. It exists to provide assistance to the community and to assist other emergency services where necessary. It also cooperates with the Radiological Protection Institute within the framework of the national emergency plan for dealing with radiological emergencies.
