Roadworks Information

Our overall objective is to construct, maintain and improve public roads and motorways to cater for the ever increasing volume of traffic and to provide the necessary infrastructure to support economic and social development.

The other principal activity is the implementation of traffic management schemes, cycle and pedestrian facilities, road safety measures including the promotion of road safety awareness and the operation of the school warden service.

"Public Road" as defined by Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 is any road over which a public right of way exists and the responsibility for its maintenance rests with the roads authority".

Roads are classified as follows:-

National Primary - major roads linking cities, principal ports, airports and large towns and declared to be a national road by the Minister for Environment and Local Government under the Roads Act, 1993.
Regional Roads - are declared to be regional roads by the Minister for Environment and Local Government and are important feeder routes to the national roads
Local Roads - includes all urban and rural other than national or regional roads.

Description

**The resurfacing works and road closure on the R420 and R424 at Lea Cross have been postponed due to the poor weather conditions.

It is intended that the emergency road closure will be in place from Monday 19^th to Fri 23^rd December during working hours to complete the works, weather permitting.

Inaccordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of theRoads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it intends to close the R424 Regional Road and R420 Strategic Regional Road at LeaCross, in the townlands of Lea and Loughmansland Glebe, Co. Laois.

The proposed closure is for a period not exceeding two weeks from Monday 12th December 2011. The closure is required for the purpose of facilitating thecarrying out of works at Lea Cross.

The alternative route is via the R420 to Canal Road, L3158, to Portlaoise Road R419, to R422 at Kennel Cross to R445 at New Inn Cross, to R424 at Monasterevin.

Appropriate signage will be erected on the diversion route to inform road users.

A map indicating the alternative route is available for inspection at the officesof Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise during normal office hoursand the Portarlington Area Office, 1 Park Lane, Portarlington, Co. Laois,on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Temporary Closure of Roads in Portlaoise/Mountmellick Electoral Area 2012 Section 75 of the Roads Act, 1993

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Laois County Council under Section 75 of the Roads Act, 1993, intends to close the following roads to public traffic to allow for the strengthening and/or surface dressing of these roads. Laois Rally Sport Club 10th June 2012 Closures

Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it is proposed to close the following roads in the vicinity of Stage 1: Ratheven, Kyletalesha , Derryguile, Killeen, Shaen and Stage 2: Trumera, Rosskelton, Raheen, Clonboyne between 08.30 a.m. and 19.30 p.m. on Sunday the 10th June, 2012.

The closure is necessary to facilitate the Laois Rally Sport Club Heartlands Rally 2012.

The following is a list of the roads to be closed: L-2133, L-21332, L-21202, L-2120, L-6119, L-6118, L-2117, L-6116, L-2115, L-2120, L-6136, L-6695, L-2694, L-26801, L-2680, L-5677, L-5678, L-6691, L-6693, L-5675, L-5674.

The Laois Rally Sport Club will be erecting the appropriate signage and arranging manned points to divert traffic to the alternative route. Local access will be provided in emergencies. A map indicating the routes to be closed and the alternative routes is available for inspection at the offices of the Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, James Fintan Lalor Avenue, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. Participants of the rally will not be permitted to view the maps.

Any person wishing to object to the proposed road closure should do so in writing to the Administrative Officer, Roads Section, Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, James Fintan Lalor Avenue, Portlaoise not later than 12.00 noon on Friday 31st May, 2012.
