Pay and Display parking was introduced in Portlaoise to allow for more convenient parking in the Town Centre and to improve overall traffic management.  The current fee for a parking disc is €1 per hour with a maximum of a two hour stay.  You should always check the street signage when parking to avoid parking fines.

Please note that all day parking facilities are available at the Civic Plaza, County Hall and Tower Hill for a fee of €2.40 per day.

Local Authorities (Traffic Wardens) Act 1975 (Fixed Charge Offence) Regulations 2006

Laois County Council wishes to advise motorists and road users that the Minister for Transport has made regulations introducing a Fixed Charge System from 3 April 2006 in respect of parking and traffic offences enforced by Traffic Wardens (and notices for same) under Section 3 of the Local Authorities (Traffic Wardens) Act 1975. The Fines-on-the-Spot System will be replaced by the new Fixed Charge System. Laois County Councils Traffic Wardens will issue Fixed Charge Notices from that date.

The level of Fixed Charges will be as follows:

For the range of Parking Offences  €40

For non-display of current Tax Disc  €60

For illegal parking in a Disabled Parking Bay  €150

These charges apply if paid within 28 days of issue of the Fixed Charge Offence Notice. These amounts plus 50% will apply if paid within the next 28 day period. Court proceedings will commence after 56 days of the issue of a fixed charge offence notice.

The act provides that no payment of a fixed charge can be accepted after the expiration of the 56 day period and court proceedings are initiated against those who opted not to make a payment.

Nomination of Driver if you were NOT driving the vehicle

You should not, later than 28 days after the date of the fixed charge notice, forward to Laois County Council, Aras an Chontae, Portlaoise, County Laois, a document in the prescribed form signed by you, the , the registered owner, stating the name and address of the person who was driving or otherwise using the vehicle at the time of the alleged offence.  This prescribed form will be attached to the Fixed Charged Notice.  A person who provides false or misleading information or fails to provide information shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding €800.
