Our overall objective is to construct, maintain and improve public roads and motorways to cater for the ever increasing volume of traffic and to provide the necessary infrastructure to support economic and social development.
The other principal activity is the implementation of traffic management schemes, cycle and pedestrian facilities, road safety measures including the promotion of road safety awareness and the operation of the school warden service.
“Public Road” as defined by Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 is any road over which a public right of way exists and the responsibility for its maintenance rests with the roads authority”.
Roads are classified as follows:-
- National Primary – major roads linking cities, principal ports, airports and large towns and declared to be a national road by the Minister for Environment and Local Government under the Roads Act, 1993.
- Regional Roads – are declared to be regional roads by the Minister for Environment and Local Government and are important feeder routes to the national roads
- Local Roads – includes all urban and rural other than national or regional roads.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Laois County Council under Section 75 of the Roads Act, 1993, intends to close the following roads to public traffic to allow for strengthening and/or surface dressing.

Notice of Decision- LAOIS COUNTY COUNCIL
SECTION 75, ROADS ACT 1993(Road Regulations 1994)
In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby give notice of its decision to temporarily close the R422 at Carn, Portarlington between its junction of R419/R422 (Kennels Cross) to Mountmellick (junctions between R423 and R422 at Turley’s Pub)
Between: Monday 25th September 2017 (17:00) and Monday 2nd October 2017 (17:00)
This closure will be in place for a maximum period of seven days commencing Monday 25th September 2017 to Sunday 2nd October 2017 (inclusive) and is necessary to carry out livestock underpass works.
Access for residents will be accommodated where possible. Diversions will be clearly signposted.

SECTION 75, ROADS ACT 1993
(Road Regulations 1994)
In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it is intended to temporarily close the N80 Mountmellick to N52 Tullamore. Works will be on the N80 Graigue to Forest Upper, Co. Laois for a distance of 3.4km.
The diversion route is via R423 & R420.
These works are scheduled to take place from Monday, 09/10/17 from 07:00 and Friday, 10/11/2017 until 18:00.
Access for residents will be accommodated where possible. Diversions will be clearly signposted. A map of the diversion route is available for inspection at www.laois.ie and Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise.
Any person wishing to object to the proposed road closure should do so in writing to the Administrative Officer, Roads Section, Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, James Fintan Lalor Avenue, Portlaoise not later than 4.00 pm on 22nd September 2017.
Temporary Closing of Roads (Evening and Overnight Closures) – ADVISORY
Roads Act 1993
In accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, that it intends to close:
Road to be Closed: the M7 westbound between Junction 14, near Monasterevin and Junction 15 Cappakeel.
Dates of the closure: Thursday 21st September 2017 to Wednesday 27th September 2017
Hours of closure:
Thursday 21st September, from 21:00 to 07:00 the following morning,
Friday 22nd September, from 21:00 to 10:00 the following morning,
Saturday 23rd September, from 20:00 to 11:00 the following morning,
Sunday 24th September, from 21:00 to 07:00 the following morning,
Monday 25th September, from 21:00 to 07:00 the following morning, and
Tuesday 26th September, from 21:00 to 07:00 the following morning.
The closure is required to facilitate the completion of pavement works.
Westbound traffic from M7 Dublin – Limerick Road will exit the motorway at Junction 14 Monasterevin, take the third exit at the Southern roundabout and take the first exit at the Northern roundabout at Junction 14 followed by a left turn onto R445 Kildare – Monasterevin Road. Diverted traffic should continue on the R445 Kildare – Monasterevin Road through Monasterevin and Ballybrittas for a distance of approximately 12.5km and take the first exit at the roundabout at Cappakeel. Diverted traffic should proceed along the R422 and take the second exit at the Northern roundabout and take the second exit at the Southern roundabout at junction 15 to rejoin M7 motorway westbound.
Local and emergency access will be facilitated at all times. Diversionary routes, as agreed with An Garda Síochána, will be clearly signposted. Any objections/observations should be lodged in writing to Kildare Co Co:
