Waste Disposal

Refuse Disposal

The refuse collection service was privatised in County Laois from the 1st May 1998.
There are a number of private contractors in Co Laois.  These contractors are required to operate under the conditions of their waste collection permits. Individuals and householders make their own arrangements, financially and otherwise, with the contractors.

Household & Commercial Waste Collection Services
In light of the current Coronavirus issue, please contact the relevant waste collection service provider to confirm continuation of services to households and businesses.
To reduce the potential for cross contamination:
1. Bins to be presented on the evening before scheduled collection
2. Handles of bins to be cleaned with disinfectant where possible before and after presentation
Refer to www.mywaste.ie for further guidance.

Asbestos removal/disposal

Asbestos must be removed by an authorized contractor and transported by an authorized Waste Collector.
Guidelines may be downloaded from EPA Website: www.epa.ie

Health and Safety Authority Advice Line: 1890 289 389

Please note that in the EPA advice they mention using the names in the Golden Pages, make the general public aware of the fact that proof of accreditation and competency is still required and check with HSA regarding qualification; just picking a name from the telephone directory is not sufficient.

The Local Authority role regards the appropriate certificate for haulage and disposal, but not removal, in other words Waste Collection Permit.
