1) Will Laois County Council arrange for a contractor to carry out the required works for an Essential Repairs Grant?
No. You must engage your own contractor/architect. It is advisable to get estimates from two or three contractors. Contractors engaging in works for which grants are payable must have a current Tax Clearance or a C2 Certificate.
2) Can I apply for an Essential Repair Grant for Elderly and/or Disabled Persons Grant if work has already commenced/been carried out?
Laois County Council must be notified before any works commence. At all times, every assistance will be given to enable qualified applicants to avail of grants.
3) What type of work qualifies for the Essential Repair Grants for Elderly?
The Essential Repairs Grant Scheme is designed to assist elderly people living alone in poor conditions to carry out basic repairs and /or structural improvements to their homes, so that they can live comfortably in that home for their lifetime. Examples of such work would include roof repairs, re-wiring, windows, doors etc.
4) Who can apply for Essential Repair Grants?
Persons over 65 years of age living alone or with another person over 65 years. See Explanatory Memorandum and Application form for further guidance.
5) What amount of Essential Repair grant aid can I get?
Under the Essential Repair Grants Scheme the maximum grant is €9,530.
6) When will I get the Essential Repairs Grant?
You must make formal application for the grant (see application form and explanatory memorandum). If approved, you will be issued with a letter detailing exact nature of works being approved. When these works have been completed to the satisfaction of Laois County Council, the grant will be paid.
