Systems Development and Maintenance

We work very closely with the Local Government Computer Services Board (LGCSB) in implementing appropriate software solutions for our organisation.

Below is a list of some of the systems we have developed, implemented and procured.

In-house developed systems

• GPRS Electronic Parking Fines system. This system is used by the traffic wardens to manage traffic management within Laois. We won an excellence in Local government award for this system and also vodafone did a case study on the system we developed.
• Environmental Complaints system.
• Handheld Water Meter Collecting Management System: This system has improved the accuracy of data collection and improved the internal processes.
• Payonline: Online payment facility system to pay for services we provide online. This facility has shown our commitment to customer service and we currently have 10 services available through the payonline area of our site. We will continue to make more services available through our site.
• Laois water quality: This system lets you check water quality throughout Laois.

• ePlan : Planning system was implemented in conjunction with Planning Department staff.
• eReg : Register of Electors system was implemented in conjunction with corporate Affairs staff.
• iDocs : Document imaging management system.
• Microsoft Sharepoint : Intranet solution which helps staff share information more easily.

The website.

Our website has proved itself a runaway success over the past number of years. Currently the site enjoys over 18,000 unique visitors every month and this number is growing. Over 80 employees throughout the building are trained to use our content management system for our website. All sections now upload their own content and latest news items. The ability for staff members to update the site has resulted in up to date information with fresh news every day, which is important in the new age of internet technology with the public demand for information. It is maintained on an ongoing basis with continuous improvements to enhance accessibility and usability.
Our website was audited in 2007 and we were awarded the W-Mark Certification in July for our high standards of both accessibility and usability. We also acquired the W3C AA award for accessibility conformance and for the validation of XHTML and CSS. Our online payments have proven very successful. Pay for IT lets members of the public update their Landfill Keyfob, pay Parking Fines, Fire Fines, Motortax,Water Charges, Housing Rents and Housing Loans.
ePlan , is a planning enquiry system that is used to track online planning applications. A few online mapping features were added to the site. One of these is Map IT, it displays local services such as schools, libraries, tourist attractions etc. these are mapped through Google Mapping Services. With the Self Service Pre-Planning Services, SSPS,  users can draw their proposed development site boundary on our system and receive an instant report about Council and government policies which might impact on your proposed development.
