Network Support and Infrastructure
Since the late 1980s, we have been to the forefront of the Local Authority sector in developing and expanding its I.T. infrastructure.
Considerable financial & staffing resources have been invested in the implementation and management of Information Systems, for the benefit of the organisation and its Customers.
Our I.S. Infrastructure is amongst the most up to date of any of the Local Authorities, and serves both Buildings on the Headquarters campus, in addition to area Offices in Mountmellick, Stradbally & Borris in Ossory. Various other Site Offices, Remote Offices & Libraries are also linked to Headquarters.
The organisation’s infrastructure comprises 2 Main Communications Rooms, An Internal Telephone System, with additional Communications facilities at various Offices, in excess of 350 Desktop & Laptop PCs, and various items of ancillary I.S. equipment, in addition to Telephone & other facilities at area offices Libraries.
One of our main projects for 2010 is to setup virtualisation. We hope to virtualise at least 6 servers this year to help reduce cost and improve efficiency.
The Payroll system for the entire Council, including Staff & Pensioners is also managed & processed here in conjunction with the Finance Department.
The Network infrastructure is managed under the direction of the Head of Information Systems, by a staff comprising: I.S. Project Leader, 3 Technical Support Officers, 1 Asst Staff Officers and 1 Clerical Officer.
