There has been significant commercial and industrial development in the County in recent years and the immediate future looks very positive.

Improvements in the transport infrastructure, together with factors such as quality of life (urban/rural) balance, relative proximity to Dublin, lower living costs, access to high speed telecommunications networks, diverse leisure opportunities, responsive Local Government etc. is delivering new investment that is giving the County that competitive edge.
The Council supports the extension of commercial and business development both indirectly by providing essential infrastructure and services, and directly by the provision of industrial lands.

This section also provides assistance and advice to the business community in Laois, including the Chambers of Commerce, local development groups, individuals and companies, in the promotion of Laois and facilitating economic development throughout the County.
