Role of Laois Community and Voluntary Forum

The Forum's role is to make representations at county level to the various policy/decision making bodies in respect of the needs and priorities of the local community and ensure that such needs and priorities are considered in development of all policies for the county.
The Forums informs and supports its representatives on the County Development Board and other committees in order to assist them in effectively and accurately voicing the priorities and needs of the community/voluntary sector. It receives feedback from those representatives and ensures that they will fulfil the roles entrusted to them by the Community Forum.
The Forum has a role in overseeing, from the community perspective, the implementation of the strategic plans ultimately drawn up by the County Development Board and the Strategic Policy Committees and other bodies and to monitor and evaluate the implementation of these plans on behalf of the local community. It will make recommendations on topics raised within the Community.

 Activities of / Representation by Laois Community Forum

• Give assistance and support Community & Voluntary Groups in Laois.
• Support and Promote events for Young people
• Support and Promote events for Elderly, Older Peoples Networking Events
• Support initiatives in respect of substance abuse awareness in the county
• Support and promote diversity within the community/voluntary sector
• Promote “Pride of Place” throughout the County
• Hold regular meetings to examine issues such as the County Development Plan and the implementation of the County Development Strategy, and make inputs and submissions on behalf of the community and voluntary sector
• Members of the Forum represent the community and voluntaryt sector on all Strategic Policy Committees of Laois County Council, having an input into policy making for the county. 
• Community Forum members are affiliated to the 3 Task Groups of the County Development Board, as well as other groups/committees established countywide, e.g., Laois Heritage Forum, Laois Partnership Company, Laois Co. Childcare Committee, Laois Sports Partnership.
