Council Meetings

Laois County Council is required by law to hold a number of Statutory Meetings each year. Amongst the meetings that must be held are an Annual General Meeting and a Budget Meeting. Monthly Meetings are held each month apart from August. In reality the Council holds a far greater number of meetings in order to deal with the huge volume of official business that must be transacted.

The Annual Meeting of the Council is held in June each year. The Monthly Meetings of the Council are held on the last Monday of the month unless that the last Monday is a Bank Holiday or that the offices of the Council are shut for some other reason. Generally if the Council Meeting does not take place on the last Monday of the month it is brought forward to the previous Monday. The statutory provisions relating to the holding of Council Meetings are contained in Schedule 10 of the Local Government Act 2001.
