Your Council
As the Local Authority for County Laois, the Council provides an extensive range of infrastructural services, and plays an active role in the development of industry, business, social, arts, heritage and cultural affairs. The Council also functions as the regulatory body for certain matters at local level. The Council performs both a representational and an operational role.
There are 25 elected members of Laois County Council. The members are elected every 5 years. As the democratically elected representatives for the county, Councillors are responsible for the compilation and adoption of the policies that are implemented by the Council. The administrative and operational role of the Council is carried out by the County Manager and the employees of the Council.
