Roadworks Information
The overall objective is to construct, maintain and improve public roads and motorways to cater for the ever increasing volume of traffic and to provide the necessary infrastructure to support economic and social development.
The other principal activity is the implementation of traffic management schemes, cycle and pedestrian facilities, road safety measures including the promotion of road safety awareness and the operation of the school warden service.
"Public Road" as defined by Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 is any road over which a public right of way exists and the responsibility for its maintenance rests with the roads authority".
Roads are classified as follows:-
- National Primary - major roads linking cities, principal ports, airports and large towns and declared to be a national road by the Minister for Environment and Local Government under the Roads Act, 1993.
- Regional Roads - are declared to be regional roads by the Minister for Environment and Local Government and are important feeder routes to the national roads
- Local Roads - includes all urban and rural other than national or regional roads.
Roadworks in the Eastern Area
The R427- Stradbally to Vicarstown Road has temporary traffic lights for a period of 4 weeks to facilitate necessary road repairs. This road is closed to HGV traffic for the duration of the works.

The L3170 - Portarlington to Ballybrittas Road has temporary traffic lights for a period of 4 weeks to facilitate necessary road repairs.
The R424 - Portarlington to Monasterevin Road at Clonanny, has temporary traffic lights for a period of 4 weeks to facilitate necessary road repairs.
Laois County Council regrets any inconvenience to road users.
Speed limit reduction as a result of roadworks at Erris/Skirke, Borris in Ossory
In accordance with the provisions of Section 10 of the Roads Traffic Act 2004, Laois County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to reduce the speed limit, in the interest of road safety, at road works on the L-1512 and L-15123, Borris In Ossory.
A temporary speed limit of 50km/h will apply to road works on L-1512 (Borris In Ossory) from a point 504m south west of the junction with L-15123 with L-1512, Erris/Skirk Glebe, Borris In Ossory for a distance of 902m to a point 398m north east of the junction of L-15123 with L-1512, Erris / Skirk Glebe, Borris In Ossory. The area of works is on the L-1512 and L-15123, Borris In Ossory.
A temporary speed limit of 50km/h will apply to road works on L-15123 (Borris In Ossory) from a point 482m west of the junction with L-15123 with L-1512, Erris/Skirk Glebe, Borris In Ossory for a distance of 482m to a point at the junction of L-15123 with
L-1512, Erris / Skirk Glebe, Borris In Ossory. The area of works is on the L-1512 and L15123, Borris In Ossory.
These above temporary speed limits will apply from 27th September 2010 to 27th March 2011.

Representations may be made in writing to the Administrative Officer, Roads, Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. The latest date for receipt of such representations is 4.00p.m. on Friday 17th September, 2010.
