M7/M8 Portlaoise Motorway Scheme

This project is being procured by the National Roads Authority (NRA) under their Public Private Partnership Programme as part of The National Development Plan (NDP) and has been awarded to the Celtic Roads Group (CRG) Portlaoise on 14th June 2007.

The scheme will operate as a tolled road.  The scheme  covers the design, finance, construction and operation of the new road and tolling facilities.

The proposed M7 Portlaoise – Castletown/M8 Portlaoise – Cullahill (M7/M8 Portlaoise Motorway Scheme forms part of the improvement to the N7 and N8 national primary routes proposed under the National Development Plan. 

The scheme ultimately will link into the N7 Castletown-Nenagh Scheme (N7 Scheme) on the N7 and the N8 Cullahill-Castletown Scheme (N8 Scheme) on the N8.  The scheme is new-build in a largely ‘green field’ environment.  It comprises of more than 46 new structures, approximately 41 kilometres of dual carriageway and approximately 3 km of single carriageway link roads, approximately 15 km of side roads, 3 grade separated junctions and a Motorway to Motorway Interchange.  It will be of benefit to the wider general public as the route is a vital national artery.
