COUNTY LAOIS RETAIL STRATEGY 2003
Laois County Council commissioned conslutants to prepare the Laois Retail Strategy in 2003. The Retail Strategy forms the basis on which the Planning Authority will formulate appropriate development Plan objectives and policies for Retail Development in County Laois and will be used in determination of applications for planning permissions. A review of the strategy will be completed as part of the preparation of the Local Area Plans for Portlaoise, Mountmellick, Portarlingtion and Carlow Environs (Graiguecullen).
The 2005 national Retail Planning Guidelines recommend that a reviw of the Retail Strategy should take place no less than (6) six years. However, in order to be consistent with the findings of the emerging Local Area Plans for the County, it is considered appropriate to conduct this review within a shorter term period. The Review is especially warranted in light of the fast changing circumstances affecting County Laois, as it becomes increasingly attractive as a residential location for commuters from the Dublin area.
