Sponsored by 4 Aces Wholesale Ltd.

Laois International Golf Challenge will be launched on the 14th April 2010 by comedian and avid golfer, Barry Murphy at the Heritage Golf & Spa Resort at Killenard.

The Challenge, now in its seventh year, is a Fourball, Betterball competition featuring players from Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, the UK and Northern Ireland. Golfers can either opt for individual day play (on Monday & Tuesday only)  for €25 or the full four day Challenge for €120.

The competition is p layed over six excellent parkland golf courses in County Laois including; Portarlington, Abbeyleix, Mountrath, Rathdowney, The Heath and Portlaoise.  A draw will decide what teams will play on which course while the leading players with the best accumulated scores over the three days will qualify to play in the Grand Final.  The final will take place on Thursday 20th May at the magnificent Seve Ballesteros designed Heritage Golf & Spa Resort.

The challenge has been created in a bid to showcase Ireland, and particularly Laois as an important tourism and golf destination to both domestic and international golfers. The competition is open to amateur golfers with a GUI Handicap and to both male and female golfers.

Because of the excellent value for money, quality golf courses and the relaxed atmosphere the Challenge receives very positive feedback each year. Each participant is invited to the Prize giving evening at the Heritage Golf & Spa Resort in Killenard.

About The Heritage Golf & Spa Resort

Co-designed by Seve Ballesteros and Jeff Howes, the course features 98 bunkers, five lakes and many streams, which bring water into play onto 10 holes. It was selected by Golf World as one of the best courses in Great Britain and Ireland. Over the last few years it has hosted the Seve Trophy, the AIB Irish Seniors Open, The Heritage Challenge and the finals of The Laois International Golf Challenge.  Some of the world’s best golfers who have played here include Sam Torrance, Nick Faldo, Justin Rose, Vijay Singh and Colin Montgomerie.

This is our fourth year participating in the Laois International Golf challenge, six of us participated four years ago, we have twelve entered for this year. The format of the competition is excellent, a better ball competition each day with prizes to be won every day.
The top twenty qualify to play at the fabulous Heritage Golf and Spa Resort designed by Severiano Ballesteros and the competition
finishes off with a presentation night for everyone.

The hospitality we receive from Mike at The Maldron Hotel, staff and officials at the golf clubs that we play, and of course Honor
and her tourism team at Laois County Council is second to none. Highly recommended.

‘My Partner and I participated in the Laois International Golf Challenge this year. The weather was less than kind but we had a wonderful week and a lovely evening at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel. The Manager of the Abbeliex Manor Hotel gave us first class attention and the food was also great. We simply wanted to thank Laois Tourism, the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel and everyone, including you, who worked so hard to make the event a success. Before our trip we didn’t even know where Laois was !! The prize giving at the Heritage Golf and Spa Resort was also great fun and we met so many people during our trip – of course it was also very nice to see how the other half live! Anyway, just to say thanks from both of us and good luck in developing the event in the future.’
