A database summarising the results of many archaeological excavations in Laois (and nationwide) is available online in a Heritage Council-funded project.
Roads
Significant archaeological remains have been found at several sites in Laois during preparations for road construction. Leaflets detailing archaeological remains uncovered before and during construction of recent roads have been produced by the National Roads Authority.
Leaflets which are available to download or which can be ordered from Laois Heritage Office include:
- Archaeological finds on the Heath Mayfield section of the M7 (Portlaoise Bypass)
- Archaeology along the routes of the M7 and M8 Motorways in Laois
Archaeologists at work at an excavation site in South Laois.
More detailed articles on several of the Laois excavations and research results from other parts of the country are available in the magazine "Seanda" produced by the National Roads Authority.
