There are two ways of doing this, by logging onto the IDMA website (http://www.directbrand.ie/idma/) and downloading a mailing preference service from to block junk mail (which is free-posted back directly to them at Mailing Preference Service (MPS), P.O. Box 5609, FREEPOST, Dublin 4) or phoning them directly on 01- 8304752.  If you are unable to down load a form, contact them by phone and once this is completed and returned, the person’s name will be removed from their database of which serves approximately 280 companies. This form only covers mail originating in Ireland.

For other companies which are not members of the IDMA or for mail originating outside of Ireland it is more difficult to put a stop to junk mail. You can write to the individual companies as they are legally obliged to respond and remove your name from their database within 40 days.

Please note that letters/post which has your name and address on it but you still consider it to be junk mail, An Post are legally obliged to deliver it to the person/address in question.  In this instance, you should contact the company in question to get your details removed from their mailing list.
