Refuse Disposal at Kyletalesha Landfill

Householders may also use Kyletalesha landfill using our keyfob system.  To gain entry to the landfill site, you must use our ‘keyfob’ system.  The purpose of the keyfob is to encourage waste reduction and recycling as the less your waste weighs, the less you pay.

Initially, to purchase a keyfob at our Cash Office located in Áras an Chontae (County Hall in Portlaoise), you need 2 forms of identification (a utility bill and a photo id).  The Cash Office is open Monday - Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The keyfob credit system works similar to a mobile phone top up system and the minimum credit purchase that can be made is €15.  You can top up your keyfob in a number of ways including (but you will not need you 2 forms of ID to top up your keyfob account):

At the Cash Office, Áras an Chontae Telephoning 057 8674308
Using the payonline option on www.laois.ie
By using your credit card at Kyletalesha Landfill (no cash is accepted at Kyletalesha Landfill).

If you lose your keyfob, a replacement keyfob will cost €15.

Kyletalesha Landfill is open Mon-Friday 8am to 3.30pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm; Closed Sundays and Bank/Public Holidays.   Every time you visit, a minimum charge of €15 (upto 40kgs) is payable when you are disposing of waste at Kyletalesha Landfill.   Over 60kgs, the charge is €135/tonne.

Dry recyclables can also be deposited at Portlaoise Recycling Centre, which is located at the same site (ie you do not need a keyfob to gain access to the recycling centre).  Full details can be found here Portlaoise Recycling Centre. The cost is a € 3(exact change required). Electrical appliances (WEE goods) are accepted free of charge.

Refuse collection from householders in Co Laois is privatised.  Details of permitted collected are available from the Enviornment Section on 057 8674322.  Remember, it is extremely important to use a waste collector that has an authorized waste collection permit (otherwise if your refuse is given to a ‘man and a van’, who illegally dumps your refuse, you are still legally responsible for it).
