New Food Waste Regulations 2009

The Food Waste Regulations 2009 are designed to promote the segregation and recovery of food waste in the commercial sector. From July 1st 2010 the Regulations impose obligations on producers of food waste, such as state buildings, restaurants & cafes, hot food outlets, canteens, hotels and larger guesthouses, supermarkets and other food retailers, to segregate food waste and make it available for separate collection service (brown bin collection).

Small businesses that produce less than 50 kg of food waste per week are exempted from complying for one year (1st July 2011). The Exemption Form can be downloaded here 1 Year Exemption Form
