Portlaoise Against Litter - Competition Results
The Portlaoise Against Litter (P.A.L.) Committee was established in 2003 as a direct result of the Irish Business Against Litter (I.B.A.L.) Survey that was carried out in 2002 and rated Portlaoise town as “heavily littered”. P.A.L. members represent various sectors of the community including, Portlaoise Tidy Towns, Laois Tourism, An Garda Siochana, Laois County Council, Laois Vintners Association & Laois Chamber of Commerce all working together in a combined effort to tackle the litter issues and share ideas/visions to enhance Portlaoise town from both a social and economic aspect.
P.A.L. members meet on a regular basis and strongly support all anti-litter campaigns and initiatives arranged by the Environment Section. This includes active participation in Clean up Laois week in Spring and Autumn. Latest I.B.A.L. results rank Portlaoise town in joint 44th position out of the 53 cities/towns surveyed with a litter classification of “moderately littered”. It is anticipated that the next survey result for July-December 2011 will be announced in early January 2012.
