Litter Management

Laois County Council conduct many anti litter campaigns and educational programmes throughout the year.  The purpose of these campaigns highlight the fact that a litter offence is subject to an on the spot litter fine of €150 and this may increase if a litter offence goes to Court.

Our projects include: Portlaoise Against Litter, Responsible Dog Ownership, Gum Litter Campaign and Clean Up Laois Week

We also work with many sectors including our Primary and Secondary Schools by promoting the internationally recognised Green Schools campaign.  Full details of our schools programmes can be found on: Green Schools and Tidy Schools

Our annual Litter Challenge and Community Action Programmes have also proven to be a great success and have seen many areas designated as litter free during the course of the competitions. Details on the Inter Community Litter Challenge and the Community Litter Action Project are updated regularly.

All projects which are mentioned above are integrated in the Council's Litter Management Plan 2012-2014

Finally, we link in with the Business Community too. Portlaoise Against Litter is a joint initiative between local business in Portlaoise,  the Gardai, Vintners Association, Portlaoise Tidy Towns and Laois Tourism.  We host competitions and promotion days in Portlaoise on a variety of litter related topics.  Further details can be found on our Portlaoise Against Litter page.
