Results of National Tidy Towns Competition 2011

The National Tidy Towns results were announced on Monday the 5^th September 2011. Congratulations to all those involved.  Local towns and villages feature among the National winners as follows:

• Silver Medal: Portlaoise [Category G]
• Bronze Medal: Castletown  [Category B] and Abbeyleix (Category C)
• Endeavour Award: Portarlington (based on a 7.48% increase on the previous year’s marks)
• County Awards included Castletown who were the winner in the Laois area (also winner in 2010),  Ballacolla was highly commended on their achievement and Abbeyleix was also commended under this category.

Well done to each of the Committees, individuals and volunteers involved, who make an invaluable contribution to the enhancement of our County.

Judging has also been completed on the local Laois Federation of Tidy Towns Competition run by the Environment Section of Laois County Council. Results were announced at the Environment Awards held on the 24^th of August 2011.
