Fairtrade Mark Ireland
Hi Folks,
Just a quick note to say thanks to all the groups who did so much over the last couple of weeks to highlight Fairtrade all around the country. It's no exaggeration to say that it was a significant success, and generated more media coverage and exposure for the FAIRTRADE Mark than in any previous year. We are beginning to make some real progress with Fairtrade in Ireland.
Having just finished the Fortnight we all can be proud of the fact that Fairtrade is beginning to be taken far more seriously and we should be able to make significant progress over coming years.
With the launch of Maynooth as a Fairtrade Town this Saturday, and following Carlow, Portlaoise, Newry and Athlone being certified during the Fortnight, there are now 24 Fairtrade Towns and Cities in Ireland, 53 groups in total - and the number is growing all the time...
I have attached a letter from Renwick Rose from WINFA in the Caribbean who visited many towns and cities in Ireland during the Fortnight - he was genuinely impressed with the committment of groups all around the country, and obviously we here in the office know that the recent growth in Fairtrade in Ireland could not have been achieved without the support of groups such as yours.
You might pass this on to the other members of your groups.
Thanks again and well done.
